Oniko Appeals To Gov. Abiodun To Complete Abandoned Polytechnic
The Oniko of Ikolaje, Idiroko, in Ipokia local government area of Ogun state Oba -elect Olayode Sunday Adekanbi has appealed to Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun to complete the abandoned polytechnic project conceptualised by his predecessor.
Speaking at his palace in Idiroko, the monarch said the major priority of his people is to have access to tertiary education.

Q: Kabiyesi, please summarise your profile.
A: I attended Primary School in Sagamu and secondary school in Abeokuta, graduating with distinction. I gained admission to Kwara State Polytechnic where I studied Business Administration. I worked briefly as a clearing agent and later as a supervisor at the mining site of the Oni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan, before establishing my own company. I am involved in large scale farming in Ilorin, rearing cattle and goats, and I also trade in real estate. I accepted the call to serve my people as their royal father few months back.
Q: Do you have a vision for Idiroko?
A: I thank His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun for the privilege to serve. Government cannot do everything, so we must complement their efforts by bringing private sector experience and will use it to identify urgent needs and implement lasting solutions. We will work with government to protect the people's interests and position our domain for comparative advantage.
Q: Do you feel Senator Adeola Solomon's impact in the Senate?
A: Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola-whom we affectionately call Yayi-has been a man of the people. He has constructed roads and additional classrooms in Idiroko. In our community we call him "Mr Project" because of his evident love and compassion. We will support him in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
Q: Do the Nigerian Customs fulfil corporate social responsibilities at the Idiroko border?
A: Infrastructure remains inadequate. For ten years there has been no public lighting in Idiroko; we rely on solar power. Although the Customs generate substantial revenue, the community has not fully felt the benefits. They have built some school classrooms, but more is needed.
On behalf of his people, the Oniko appealed to Governor Abiodun to complete the polytechnic so children need not travel long distances for higher education. He described the governor as a listening leader who will address the challenge.
